Kashi · 14th – 19th January 2027 · The Sunrise Edition
Sacred luxury travel to the most significant spiritual sites of the planet. Held with consciousness, rooted in the ancient traditions.
Explore the authenticity of the ancient world. Awaken the sacred within yourself.

For thousands of years, seekers have travelled to Varanasi (Kashi) to catalyse their spiritual growth. It is the oldest continuously lived city on earth, and the spiritual core of the Vedic Hindu civilisation.
Somakalā was born from more than eleven years of solo travel through the ancient cultures of the earth: from the shrines of Japan to the shamans of Peru, the water temples of Bali to the pagan heartlands of Europe.
Travel transformed my life. It is the most irreplaceable thing I've done. But I learnt that the same sacred site can leave one person untouched and transform another.
The difference lies entirely in how you arrive: who opens the door, what you understand, and whether you are truly held. Not just to enter a place, but to immerse in the origins that connect you to something eternal.
That is Somakalā. A guided journey through the ancient portals of the earth, rooted in indigenous lineages and ecological consciousness. This is your expansion, your reconnection to the divine within.
Somakalā: the full expansion of your soul's freedom.

From our journeys

If you already know me, I'm so happy to have you here. And if you're new, I can't wait to welcome you to my world of cosmic adventures!
It was 11 years ago that I left the City of London with a one-way ticket back to India. I grew up in England and graduated with a distinction in my MSc in Economics.
I had a world of opportunity in front of me in the world of finance, but I knew something was missing. I had to experience the worlds outside of me, to seek the answers I couldn't find in my textbooks.
My journey took me across Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, Eastern Europe, Western Europe where I was born, Japan, Hawaii, South America, and dimensions that I can never explain in words, but always wanted to share.
Somakalā Journeys is birthed from my decade of adventures, self-discovery, spiritual expansion, and the incredible risks I've taken to discover just one thing: liberation.
Every container I create gives back to the traditions, with conscious and ecologically aligned practices. Travel that heals your soul and heals the earth, because the one thing we travel for is to remember that we are always home.
This is Somakalā Journeys: the expansion of your fullest divine potential.
With love, Kamya

“The Kashi trip with Kamya was nothing short of spectacular. She packed in the maximum experiences that one can have in Kashi.”
The Kashi trip with Kamya was nothing short of spectacular. The way she showed us the temple city, I don’t think I could have done it without her. She packed in the maximum experiences that one can have in Kashi. Her knowledge and her acquaintances are beyond expectations.
I will never forget this magical trip and I can’t wait to do it again with her.
“My hesitation to travel as a woman was completely erased. I believe my spiritual grounding and journey got strengthened with this one trip alone.”
The heart is full, despite it being more than a year since I took Kamya’s Kashi Yatra. It has been one of the most memorable experiences of my life.
Even before the trip started one could see how well organised it is, from the attention to detail Kamya pays, to the effort she takes to answer every question and put one at ease. My hesitation to travel as a woman was completely erased, already at the beginning.
The group was magic. From the initial gathering to meet each other until the final day of the trip, personal stories were exchanged, bonds were formed, laughter was in abundance, future trips were planned… and everyone watched out for each other with the love and care that only a Divinely crafted journey can provide.
I wouldn’t have experienced Kashi were I to take this trip on my own. I would’ve missed out on the hidden gems that are otherwise inaccessible.
Kamya is a Kashi expert, from knowing the nooks and corners like the back of her palm, to knowing Panditjis who would ease the pūjā processes, to sharing ancient and new stories about the land that leave you mesmerised.
I believe my spiritual grounding and journey got strengthened with this one trip alone. After all, this is Kashi, and with Kamya as the guide you’re in good hands. Har Har Mahādev!
“I had the privilege of seeing Varanasi through Kamya’s eyes, and I would not have it any other way. It was a soul-satisfying experience.”
I am so grateful to Kamya that I could explore Varanasi and gain insights into its culture and tradition. All this was possible because of her deep knowledge of the subject. I was blessed to walk through the narrow lanes, visit temples and ashrams, and have delicious food. Watching the sunrise from Chausatthi Ghat was a divine experience.
Some of the memorable moments I had include chanting the Hanuman Chalisa in a group at Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple, and visiting the Kaal Bhairav and Kashi Vishwanath temples. Attending the evening aarti and the majestic boat ride covering all the ghats was an experience in itself. The serenity and vibes of the Lahiri Mahasaya and Trailanga Swami ashrams are a blissful memory that has stayed with me. Being in the midst of a lively group and spending time at cafes was an add-on :)
It was Kamya’s helpful, friendly, kind-hearted nature that ensured I had one of the most memorable trips. I had the privilege of seeing Varanasi through Kamya’s eyes and I would not have it any other way. It was a soul-satisfying experience. Thank you, Kamya.

The significance of Kashi
You are standing on the banks of the Ganga, watching your first Kashi sunrise from the balcony of an ancient palace.
The cosmic energy is palpable; the sounds of temple bells, and the breathing, beating heart of unbroken ancient traditions that have continued for thousands of years.
14th – 19th January 2027 · Uttarāyaṇa
In this 5 day and 6 night journey, you will be experiencing the best of ancient Kashi. With guided rituals for the sacred time of Uttarāyaṇa, healing ceremonies and hand made organic food - this is for the people that don't just want to visit Kashi, but discover the Kashi within themselves.

The experience

The Stay
Your stay in Kashi is in a stunning palace property, Guleria Kothi, on the banks of the Ganga. A small, exclusive house where you can deeply restore your energy in Vedic luxury.
Wake to temple bells, with the first light of the Ganga at your window.

The Activities
The world famous Ganga Aarti. Meditation in Manikarnika Ghat. Soaking in ancient classical music. Walking through the magical ghats. Sunrise rituals to fill your soul. Our activities will give you a full bodied experience of the high energy of Kashi.

The Astrology
This edition is timed with Uttarāyaṇa, the 6 month auspicious period in the Vedic calendar when the sun moves into Capricorn. During Uttarāyaṇa, we have an enhanced opportunity to recalibrate our energetic field and life.

The Temples
With main darśans in the Kashi Vishwanath temple with an experienced pandit, Kaal Bhairav, Visalakshi, Dhundi Raj Vinayak and Sankat Mochan Hanuman to name a few; we dive deeper in to plethora of puranic Swayambhu temples, Goddesses and sacred wells. We also visit ashrams of accomplished yogis such as Tailang Swami and Lahiri Mahasaya, with the space held safely at each stage.

The Rituals
Our journey includes one full Nava Chaṇḍī Homa, which is one of the most powerful invocations of Shakti. This is a deep ritualistic experience where you get to experience what this feels like first hand, where the tradition is still preserved. We will also experience a Vedic Rudrābhiṣeka which is one of the foremost rituals to perform in Kashi for the blessings of Shiva.

The Practices
Through each day of our trip, I take you through gentle guided practices in our palace stay and in the temples themselves. With guided moon meditation, sun worship rituals and mantra chanting - you will be enriched with the deep wisdom of Sanatan Dharma which stays with you for life.

The Sevā
Kashi is one of the foremost kshetras to do Annadānam, or offerings of food - which is one of the highest positive karmas you can do. It is the kshetra of Goddess Annapurna, the Goddess of abundance and nourishment. We will be connecting with the local indigenous people, making organic offerings and purifying our karmas through conscious sevā.

The Nourishment
During this trip, you will be served home cooked meals in our accommodation with Kashi's best delicacies - with zero seed oils. I personally order A2 Vedic ghee, cold pressed healthy oils, organic rice, lentils and spices to ensure you get the highest vibration of nourishment in your trip. This makes all the difference. You can also request food dishes that you like.

Questions
Yes. Kashi meets you at every stage. All you need is respect for its sacredness. Kamya will guide you through every experience and its meaning. Having a small group means you get ample time for personal guidance on your path.
From the moment you land in Kashi, the space is held for you. From the airport to the ancient galīs, from the temples to the Ganga. To come to Kashi is a once in a lifetime experience suitable for every stage. You can ask more questions in your personal call after applying.
Many of our guests are women travelling alone. Having already navigated a number of challenges alone as a female, Kamya carefully curates the space to ensure that women are comfortable. In the event of any disturbance, immediate action is taken to ensure your welfare is taken care of. You are never, ever left alone.
A tour shows you the ghats, Ganga Aarti and main temples. This is a journey into yourself, formed from years of personal exploration. This opens doors to knowledge, experiences and sacred sites that are barely accessed by tourists. You become part of Kashi, not just an observer.
The energy of Kashi can bring up a lot from the subconscious which is why people often experience what we call 'purging' in shamanism. However, if you are concerned about street food you eat all your meals in Guleria made with my specially ordered organic ingredients. In the event of any health support needs, the team at Guleria are incredibly capable and I will ensure you get everything you need. After all, you are coming to heal.
The itinerary is an estimated rhythm, with room for the natural flow that Kashi Vishwanath takes us on. Each day balances ritual with generous time for rest at Guleria Kothi to integrate. Each activity is an invitation. If you need to rest during something, that is always respected.
The walking in Kashi is definitely less than the walking in London, that's for sure. Having said that, there is a fair amount of walking within the galīs and ghats. If you struggle with walking, please let me know in our call if your application is accepted. This is something to discuss one to one.
Everything in Kashi is included: your suite at Guleria Kothi, all meals, every ritual and ceremony, temple access, teaching, sevā and your goodie bag of pure organic products. You are met at Varanasi airport, whichever country you fly from. You arrange your flights, visa and travel insurance.
A 50% deposit secures your room: £1,501 shared suite, £1,951 private suite. The balance is due 5 December 2026, and applications close 20 November 2026. You may pay to a UK account or an Indian account as per your currency.
Your deposit is non-refundable, as your room at Guleria Kothi is reserved and held from the moment it is received.
Once the full amount is paid, it is non-refundable, though your place may be transferred to another guest, by agreement, up to 14 days before the journey begins.
Travel insurance is required of every guest, including cancellation, curtailment and medical cover valid in India. Please arrange it when you pay your deposit.
In the extremely rare event of natural disaster, restrictions on travel or circumstances outside of our control preventing the journey from happening, you will receive a full refund of everything paid to Somakalā, or your place on another journey.
All your questions will be discussed on call once your application is processed. Please fill in the form and I will get back to you. You may also write to me at namaste@somakala.com.

The significance
Open each to read more.
The name comes from the root kāś, to shine. Kashi is the city of light, a field where the inner light is said to become easier to see.
Kashi Vishwanath is one of the twelve Jyotirliṅgas, the radiant forms of Shiva, and among the most revered places of worship in the Hindu world.
Kashi is one of the seven Mokṣa Purīs. Tradition holds that those who leave the body here are granted liberation, which is why the fires of Manikarnika burn day and night.
Every act of worship, charity or service performed in Kashi is said to bear multiplied fruit. It is why Annadānam here is so powerful.
The Ganga at Kashi flows north, towards her source, a rare and auspicious turn. Snān here is prescribed to wash away the karma of lifetimes.
Kashi has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years. Its Vedic schools, pandits and rituals form one of the oldest unbroken spiritual lineages on earth.
Shiva's city is also the seat of the Goddess, from Annapūrṇā who feeds the world to Viśālākṣī, a Shakti Pīṭha. Here the masculine and feminine are worshipped as one.

About · Wandering Kamya
The adventures of Wandering Kamya: creating a life of travel, and exploring the depth of the ancient world.

It was a cold autumn day in 2015, when I decided to get a one way ticket back to India. I had just gotten through to the final round of interviews with McKinsey in London, deciding between a career in investment banking or management consulting. I had already done 2 months in Barclays Capital, but deep down - I just couldn't see myself living that lifestyle. So I quit.
I literally just left everything in between, to seek one thing. To seek the answers that my soul yearned beyond my textbooks; to seek out the spiritual truths of myself.
I literally just left everything in between, to seek one thing.

Initially, I thought I would take a gap year to travel and then decide a 'career.' But the universe had other plans. My first solo trip was to Cambodia in 2016. I explored the ancient temples of Angkor Wat, the stunning islands in the South; ventured over to Vietnam, Laos and had a ton of adventures.
But then I got a dream job offer - working as a supervisor for a Randomised Controlled Trial study in behavioural economics under a Harvard Professor. It was a sure shot path to pursuing a PhD in Economics in any Ivy League that I wanted. I mean, what was not possible.
Yet once again, 2 months in, I was feeling completely disillusioned. I wanted my autonomy. I wanted freedom, and no promise of worldly success could make me give that up. So I jetted off back to the Himalayas - Parvati Valley to be precise, and so began the journey of Wandering Kamya.

I wanted freedom, and no promise of worldly success could make me give that up.

It was in 2017 that I bought my first camera. I always wanted to share my travels, but that was when I decided to make it my life and work. The universe took me to Thailand and Bali, where I discovered the niche spiritual communities, shamanic plant medicines and healing modalities that opened up entirely new worlds. I made the tiny island of Koh Phangan my home for months, with an equal balance of partying and spiritual risk-taking.

Risk, it was something I never really saw. I just jumped, without knowing the path in front of me. And each time, the path appeared by itself. The journey of seeking that I carved out with my own hands, my tears, my trauma, my laughter, love and freedom.

I just jumped, without knowing the path in front of me. And each time, the path appeared by itself.

Across the years, I have hitchhiked barefoot across Eastern Europe, climbed up the most dangerous stairway in Hawaii in the middle of the night, danced for 3 days without a pause in psytrance festivals, made a ton of mistakes, lost my soul in toxic relationships, discovered it again with nature's healing, swam naked in waterfalls and always, always tried to create a better world with my platform.

In 2019, I went to the Amazon rainforest for the first time which was another turning point in my life. Exploring the sacred ceremonies of Ayahuasca and San Pedro; amongst various other expeditions, I cleared a deep amount of unresolved trauma and awakened my connection to my Vedic ancestors to a whole new degree.

Everything changed in 2020, on that one day in Koh Phangan where the skies were grey, and people were scurrying back to their countries. I remember that last day on the beach, knowing it would be some time before I came back to my favourite place in the world (well, we have a lot of favourite places).
But during that year, like many of us, my awareness about what was happening in the world expanded. The ancient Vedic civilisation that I had taken for granted, was crumbling. And to face that truth, the truth of centuries of Hindus being erased, persecuted; the ancestral trauma and the utter oblivion of new age spirituality towards caring about our survival stirred me into something deeper.
The home that I never knew I lost. That was Kashi.

And as the cosmos would have it, in 2021 I was called back to Kashi. The second time in this lifetime. The first time had been in 2017, but I ended up with gastritis and had to leave within a day. A deep purge, but the grace of Kashi Vishwanath was going to call me back, and grant me Kashi as a home.
The home that I never knew I lost. That was Kashi. It was one day before Mahāshivrātri 2021 in Kashi, and I didn't know as much as where the temple was or where to go. But the events flowed like water; I met one of the ancestral pandits and was in and out of the main temple in a grand total of 30 minutes. As if I had been there for lifetimes.
In the two weeks I spent there, I was submerged in divine energy. I heard the Rudri Path for the first time, learnt about Vedic astrology, visited more temples than I can possibly count and of course, dissolved the many incarnations I've taken into the unconditional love of the Ganga.
I felt, home. A home where the ancient world was still alive, in day to day life. Where the sacred was revered. Where knowledge flowed freely; and where the cosmic energy carried you on its wings; healing my entire relationship with life, with myself and my practice.

In 2022, I started hosting my first trips. Kashi became my permanent home, where I have lived until now. This period of my life was one of the most spiritually intense. If previously my journey was about free flowing wild exploration (which was invaluable), this was about expanding my knowledge and deeper connection the deities. Kashi Vishwanath, as we say, chooses you.

Kashi Vishwanath, as we say, chooses you.

My journey took me to various tirth kshetras across India, visiting the Ambubachi Mela in Kamakhya, yearly visits to Tiruvannamalai and multiple kshetras across Bharatvarsh. My journey with the sacred Vedic sites was not linear - because I had experienced many of these places before; yet each time I would come back a whole different person.
…each time I would come back a whole different person.

By 2024, I was starting to get frustrated with a lot of the problems of Indian society and Kashi. One of the main deterrents to foreign travellers to these ancient sites is safety and proper space holding. Yes on the one hand, India is special because it throws up all the issues of unconscious capitalism in your face. Europe keeps it under an aesthetic veneer.
But there was no doubt that unconscious tourism, haphazard development and lack of basic awareness had quickly eroded our most important Mokṣa Purī. As the issues piled on, I just couldn't escape. I couldn't take a flight to Bali and eat in a nice healthy organic cafe, knowing that the indigenous people who were protecting these ancient traditions and holding on by a thread didn't have access to pure food. That the temples didn't have access to the most essential things that were destroyed through neo-colonisation and colonisation.
Hence birthed my Kashi Sevā initiative where I provide organic A2 Vedic ghee and offerings in Kashi's temples; and arrange Yagyas (vedic rituals) for the protection of dharma and ecology. If you want to understand more about that, you can read that separately. But let's get back to the story.
The story of a traveller, who was just wanting to explore - but ended up discovering an ancient world that never left. The seeker that was just searching for a home, and found it in the divine mother. The activist who wanted to change the world and found the answers in the deep wisdom of these sacred traditions.

Whatever I was seeking, I found it. I found it and now it will never leave. The eternity that I bring to you through this journey.

And so, wherever you are on your journey. Whatever that looks like for you, and whatever it is that you seek - Somakala Journeys is my love letter to the journey of travel. It is me giving a part of myself, to show you the ancient world in the way it was meant to. With reverence, with organic food, indigenous knowledge and reciprocity.
Somakala: the full expansion of your soul's freedom. Taking you across Kashi, Kamakhya, sacred sites in South East Asia, Bali and Peru. Connecting the world's ancient cultures, and bringing it together in this offering of my soul - surrendered at the feet of Maa Tara. The one who freed me, and the one for whom I devote every single word.
Infinite love,
I grew up in England, moving house every year or two since the time I was born. A nomad, because the concept of home was never concrete. Although my adolescence has been rather eventful; a series of dark nights of the soul and somehow making it out alive - I went to international school for 2 years in India and then returned back to England for university.
I hold a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Loughborough with First Class Honours, and an MSc in Economics from the University of Warwick with distinction. My main areas of interest were behavioural and development economics; two subjects which greatly informed the non-profit projects I have created for my ancient origins and the planet.
By ancestry, I belong completely to the Vadnagra Nagar Brahmin Shaivite lineage. Many of my ancestors were spiritual adepts; including the revered sadhu Narsi Mehta who had darśan of Shri Krishna multiple times. My ancestor sisters Tana and Rini were expert classical singers with spiritual siddhis so strong they could bring rain with their music, and were called to perform with Tansen to save him from burning. On my maternal grandmothers side, the Sadhvi Anand Lahiri was also an adept and has her Samadhi in Kutch, Gujarat.
Although my lineage is from Gujarat, the origins of Shaivism are in Kashmir; the land of Rishi Kashyap. Over the course of my spiritual journey, I have explored a diversity of spiritual paramparas, gained knowledge from multiple traditional and new age streams, and identify as a child of Maa Tara, the great cosmic mother who ferries us through the ocean of samsara.
Some of my greatest passions are spiritual exploration, solo travel, art and culture, women's empowerment, ecological protection, the protection of the diversity of ancient dharmic Sampradayas, the protection of global indigenous ancient cultures, natural health, organic farming and of course, I love a good Matcha.
I strongly believe in the principles of conscious capitalism; that in order to bring about the change this world so desperately needs, we need to build a new dimension of experience within every domain. For me, conscious luxury travel brings about the 3 more revolutionary things to exist - spiritual growth, the depth of first hand experiences, and reciprocity to the origins.
Ethos
Where your journey makes a positive impact: on the traditions, on the earth, and on you.
Throughout my adventures, I have always sought to answer one question. How do I make impact?
Somakala Journeys was founded from my 11+ years of solo travel across the world and ancient cultures.
Each journey is curated with the most organic, eco-conscious offerings; held with reverence to the ancient lineage traditions of every location - from Kashi to the Amazon rainforest.
Our values
Here are the four core values we operate on:

Expertly curated containers that give you access to what most would take years to discover by themselves.

Every journey gives back to the ancient dharmic traditions and ecology, and includes organic sevā.

Heritage stays and organic sattvic food. A new way of experiencing luxury.

Intimate circles of 12–15 seekers: a safe space, screened for alignment.
Too much travel takes from sacred places and gives little back.
Somakalā was built as the opposite. We enter with alignment, we honour the lineage rather than reinvent it, we give back to the origins, and we leave every place richer than we found it. That is karmic positive travel.
